Call for Applications: 21st Century Fund

MoSGA’s 21st Century Fund is a program that offers competitive grants of up to $1,000 each to Missouri historical and genealogical societies, libraries and archives to compile, index, preserve and or publish local records.

In August 2016 the St. Charles County Historical Society was awarded a grant of $990.00 from the Missouri State Genealogical Association to purchase a sheet-fed scanner to digitize St. Charles County records.

We are excited to share the results this grant with comments from Amy G. Haake, archivist of the St. Charles County Historical Society.

“Sometimes dreams do come true. Here at the St. Charles County Historical Society (SCCHS) Archives we’ve long talked about digitizing the wealth of genealogical information complied by our former county genealogical society but knew the process would be too time consuming using only the normal office supply store scanner.
With a generous grant from MoSGA, we have not only accomplished what was once a dream but are living in the fast (scanning) lane with our new Cannon multi feed scanner. One major project is completed, and we are ready to go onto the next, all the while being able to scan multiple pages of documents to fulfill member and patron requests as well as scanning and uploading workshop hand-outs online to the Society webpage.”

The MoSGA Board of Directors and the 21st Century Fund Committee congratulate the St. Charles County Historical Society on seeing their dream through to fruition. We are happy to be a part of a Missouri based preservation project.

With 2018 underway the 21st Century Fund will begin accepting applications for grants. To learn more about how your organization can apply for a grant, visit our grant fund page.

Missouri State and Territorial Census Records Updated on FamilySearch

I always review the newly indexed records on Ancestry and FamilySearch when they release the lists at the end of each month.

FamilySearch's January's list included an update to the Missouri state census records from 1732-1933.

Take a look at it here. But don't forget FamilySearch requires you to login, but the results are free. Happy hunting!
