Students in Belleville East High School who are studying German under their teacher, Andrew Gaa, are learning a practical application of their language skills by translating the obituaries of German residents from the area who died between 1892-1898. The Belleville newspaper, Post und Zeitung, posted obituaries every week, written in German. These obituaries are especially helpful to genealogists because they usually mention the town that the person came from.
