GENEALOGICAL RESOURCES OF BREHM LIBRARY

Next General Meeting
Saturday, March 22, 2014
C. E. Brehm Memorial Library
101 S. 7th Street
Mt. Vernon
1:00 p.m.
Speaker: Joy Upton

The Genealogy Society of Southern Illinois will hold a general meeting at the Mt. Vernon C. E. Brehm Memorial Library on Saturday, March 22 at 1:00 p.m. Joy Whitson Upton, well known area genealogist, will discuss the “Genealogical Resources of Brehm Library.”

The Library has an extensive genealogical collection and also houses the Illinois DAR State Genealogical Library. It is one of the outstanding genealogical libraries in the state. Ms. Upton, a “retired” librarian who catalogued many of the GSSI genealogy books at the JALC Library, is currently the Illinois State DAR Genealogical Records Chairman and will become the Illinois State DAR Librarian in July.

Many who work diligently on genealogy may not be fully aware of the many resources at Brehm. The Genealogy Section, located on the ground floor, has a staff genealogy librarian. GSSI will meet in the nearby community meeting room.

All GSSI general meetings are open to anyone interested in genealogy. Presenter Joy Upton teaches genealogical research classes at JALC and has given many programs and workshops for GSSI. On February 21, she conducted a one day seminar on DNA in Genealogical Research at the JALC Alongi Attendance Center at Du Quoin.
