THE QUIET REVOLUTIONARY

John Brown hated slavery, and died on the gallows; Henry Wadsworth Longfellow hated slavery, and wrote a poem about the American Revolution that was every bit as much a call to arms against slaveholders and the states that sought to perpetuate the peculiar institution:
