Let me set the scene for you: it’s World War II, and you are the Medical Corpsman on a Navy submarine. A crewman comes to you with what appear to be signs of acute appendicitis. You don’t have a doctor on board, and you’re in Japanese patrolled waters, so there’s no way to reach a doctor quickly enough to save the crewman. What do you do?
