D-DAY AT NATIONAL WWII MUSEUM

D-Day Anniversary and the 8th Anniversary of
the National World War II Museum


Commemorate the anniversary of the D-Day invasion at Normandy with a visit to The National World War II Museum. A brief ceremony will honor the Allied forces who took part in the invasion and mark the Museum's eighth anniversary. The Museum's Living History Corps will be on hand displaying the uniforms and weapons of World War II. For more information, call 504-527-6012 x 333, or info@nationalww2museum.org.

9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Living History Corps Reenactors

9:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Collection Department will present a display of American Military vehicles at the corner of Camp and Higgins. The public is invited to view these vehicles and speak to the Museum's knowledgeable staff about their employment in WWII. Vehicles will include a Sherman Tank, Jeep and 57mm Anti Tank gun.

9:00 am - 4:00 pm
A short film from the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation featuring Medal of Honor recipient Walt Ehlers will be on continuous view. Ehlers recounts the actions at Normandy that resulted in his being awarded this prestigious honor.

10:00 am - 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Booksigning by WWII veteran Robert Bearden, author of To D-Day and Back: Adventures with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and Life as a WWII POW

10:30 am - 11:00 am
D-Day Anniversary and Museum Birthday Ceremony featuring Governor Pete Wilson, Nick Mueller and representative from the French Military Attaché after which cake will be served

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
A lecture by Robert Beardon, author of To D-Day and Back: Adventures with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and Life as a WWII POW

1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Airborne Veterans of Normandy panel featuring Robert Beardon, George Leidenheimer and Tom Blakey
