A free alternative to Windows Explorer that may be just what you've been looking for:

"File Organiser is a freeware replacement file explorer developed to replace 'Windows Explorer': it makes life much easier, especially for teachers. The main difference is that this uses 2 panes, which makes it simpler to copy FROM and TO. It also has 'bookmarks' AND, each time you start File Organiser it returns to where you were. Other features include: More accessible 'find' or search function. Camera and USB pen detection. Autodetects the folder where your photos are. Info button, to find out where all the disk space is used. Extensive, flexible file renaming. Save file/ folder structure to a text file, so this can be printed. Save to an html document your favourite Internet links (from Internet Explorer) this can then be uploaded to your Web site."

BTW, always check downloaded files with your anti-virus / anti-malware software before installing on your computer-- better safe than sorry!
