31st MISSOURI INFANTRY REGIMENT BOOK

The Sunset Hills Historical Society will host author, Gary Scheel, who will discuss his book, 66 Miles in 39 Hours, at its February meeting on Monday, Feb 25, 2008 at Sunset Hills City Hall, 3939 South Lindbergh Blvd., at 7:00 p.m

Mr. Scheel will give a true acount of his great-great grandfather's Civil War experiences with the 31st MO Infantry Regiment under the command of General William T. Sherman. His great-great grandfather left a diary detailing his life during the war. Mr. Scheel wrote the book 66 Miles in 39 Hours highlighting wartime experiences with quotes from men in the regiment who were actually in its various battles.

Mr. Scheel will also display period uniforms and equipment. Mr. Scheel is Commander of a local Sons of Union Veterans group and also of MOLLUS (Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the US). He's a member of the Missouri Civil War Museum at Historic Jefferson Barracks, is a member of other patriotic groups, and is the owner of a Bed-n-Breakfast in Historic Ste. Genevieve, MO. With the upcoming 150th anniversary of the Civil War in 2011, you won't want to miss this talk. You need not be a member of the Society to attend.
